Players on ESEA are assigned a Matchmaking Rating (MMR for short) which represents their skill level. The higher your MMR the better you typically are as a player.
Players receive MMR for winning PUGs and lose MMR when they lose PUGs. The amount of MMR you win and lose per match depends on a variety of factors such as the size of your premade group, the balance of the match, and more.
As a precaution to avoid players being carried to a high MMR where they do not belong we have reintroduced a penalty for larger group sizes. Players will receive less MMR per win when in a group size of three or larger. The larger the group, the larger the penalty.
Similarly, if multiple higher ranked players are queuing together then it may not be possible to give their opponents the equivalent group size and skill with all other factors (server selection, group size, map pool, etc) in mind. As a result, the statistically weaker group would be rewarded more as underdogs meanwhile the heavy favourites would receive less MMR for the match.
